She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, and her MS and PhD from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.Her research focuses on the intersection of social psychology and health. She is particularly interested in how processes surrounding the self (e.g., defensiveness, social comparison) influence health decision-making and behavior. A few of my favorite things...PsychologyI really love empirical psychology. Studying human behavior is fascinating. From identifying the basic processes involved in interacting with our world to understanding the complex ways that social systems work, psychological science offers a unique and ever-evolving understanding of what it means to be human. The OutdoorsI come from a place where the average temperature during the summer is in the 90s, but I still love being outside. I like to hike, bike, kayak, ski, swim, play outdoor sports, and lay in the grass and read. Basically I like do anything that involves being outside. My favorite concert venues are outdoors and I will always want a porch, a balcony, or a yard.TravelI love to travel. I have a map hanging on my wall with push pins marking all the places I have been. I enjoy road trips with spontaneous stops and visiting places I’ve never been before. I have visited 49 of the 50 U.S. states (Someday soon I'll get to Alaska!) and 47 of the 63 US National Parks. |
