She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, and her MS and PhD with a focus on Social Psychology from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.Her research focuses on the intersection of social psychology and health. She is particularly interested in how processes surrounding the self (e.g., defensiveness, social comparison) and social cognition (e.g., automatic perceptions of others) influence health decision-making and behavior. A few of my favorite things...PsychologyI really love empirical psychology. Studying human behavior is fascinating and I feel so lucky to have found this career. From identifying the basic processes involved in interacting with our world to understanding the complex ways that social systems work, psychological science offers a unique and ever-evolving understanding of what it means to be human.The OutdoorsI like to hike, bike, kayak, ski, swim, play outdoor sports, and lay in the grass and read. Basically I like do anything that involves being outside. My favorite concert venues are outdoors and I will always want a porch or a yard.TravelI love to travel. I have a map hanging on my wall with push pins marking all the places I have been. I enjoy road trips with spontaneous stops and visiting places I’ve never been before. I have visited all of the 50 U.S. states and 49 of the 63 US National Parks.My FamilyI live with my wonderful wife, our adorable son, and our quirky dog. I am so very fortunate to get to share my adventures, big and small, with them. We have a beautiful extended family living all over the U.S.—from Boston, D.C., and Texas, to all over California—and Mexico. |
